The streets of the capital city St. John’s in Antigua came alive in a dazzling display of national pride as the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons brought their energy to the people with a vibrant parade ahead of the 2025 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Hundreds of fans lined Lower Market Street in the heart of the capital as they were by Falcons players and coaches. There was a street-cricket session which attracted many fans, who tried their hands at winning tickets for the upcoming tournament.
The parade was capped off with free merchandise and ticket giveaways to lucky fans which is part of building excitement ahead of the team’s highly anticipated matches at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
Rahkeem Cornwall, the local favourite and one of the leading allrounders in the tournament’s history, received a huge cheer when he arrived. He said he is happy to be back in the colours of Antigua and Barbuda in the upcoming CPL campaign. He spoke to fans and media about his desire to play in front of his home crowd. “There’s no place like home. When the Falcons came calling, I answered the call. I said ‘yes’ because I want to win the CPL title at home. To see the love from the fans today just confirms that I made the right choice,” said Cornwall.
The Falcons will travel for their opening match on Thursday at Warner Park against the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. First ball is 7pm. The Falcons will then return home for their first home match against Barbados Royals on Saturday at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, also at 7pm.
